Emily R. Strohacker is an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice in the School of Public Affairs at Penn State Harrisburg. She received her M.A and Ph.D. from the University of Central Florida’s Department of Sociology. She joined the Penn State University community in August 2017.
As the only victimologist on the criminal justice faculty, Dr. Strohacker has developed two specialized courses at Penn State Harrisburg that focus on providing students with in-depth knowledge about victims, their rights, and the available services designed to support them. Her academic work is driven by a profound commitment to fostering empathy and understanding among students, ensuring they are well-prepared to engage compassionately and professionally in the criminal justice field.
Since joining Penn State Harrisburg, her research agenda has evolved into three key areas: (1) bullying; (2) sexual victimization; and (3) domestic violence. Her articles have appeared in Crime & Delinquency, Journal of Human Trafficking, Policing: Journal of Policy, and Policing” An International Journal, among others.
