Understanding and addressing the factors that increase the risk of sexual violence is essential to building safer, more equitable communities. The latest issue of The Resource, published by Respect Together’s national division, the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC), examines the intersection of disability and gender-based violence and invites readers to deepen their understanding of the systemic barriers and cultural attitudes that contribute to increased vulnerability amongst the disability community.
People with disabilities experience sexual violence at disproportionately high rates, yet their experiences are too often overlooked in prevention efforts, services, and public conversations. The Resource, “Disability, Understanding Ableism, Sexual Violence, and Healthy Sexuality,” highlights the importance of centering the voices and experiences of people with disabilities while exploring ways advocates, educators, and communities can work toward greater accessibility, inclusion, and safety.
Disability encompasses a broad range of identities and lived experiences, and no single publication can capture the full diversity of this community. Instead, this issue serves as one step in an ongoing commitment to ensure that disability is meaningfully included in conversations about sexual violence prevention and response. By fostering greater understanding and encouraging thoughtful dialogue, The Resource aims to encourage our field to be further grounded in respect, equity, and the dignity of all people.
This edition also marks the third issue of The Resource published as a fully digital online magazine. The interactive format offers readers an engaging way to explore articles and perspectives from across the movement while making it easier to access and share valuable content.
This issue offers insights that can help strengthen your work and expand conversations about creating more inclusive approaches to prevent sexual violence and support survivors.
We invite you to explore the latest issue of The Resource and join us in continuing the conversation about disability, accessibility, and ending sexual violence.
